The Reflective Essayย 

Looking back to the previous work and going through the process of revision are always meaningful and important to improve the writing. When I first read my original context of blog posts, in-class writings and reflective statement for Local Graffiti project, it seems poor and not elaborate. Instead of revising partial context, I had to change almost all part of my works.

I did not use the emoji often. When I first wrote the blog post 1, I felt difficult to create short story only using emojis with few words. Then I found out that sometimes the emoji could express more clear meaning and mood of the message than the word itself. In the original blog post 1, I only wrote a short story. For the revised blog post 1, I wrote a brief summary of snow white by using emojis. I didnโ€™t know that the user can change the skin color of human emoji. Revision of blog post 1 provides more skills to use emoji effectively.

For the mid portfolio, I focused on the graffiti work as a media and how various types of media could work as a tool of conveying a message to the audience; the blog posts and in-class writing I choose are all related to graffiti work and rhetoric and composition. For the revised version of the local graffiti assignment, I changed the Facebook icon in the dish to the beer bottle filled with Likes. Also, I added speech bubbles so that it can illustrate the lack of conversation caused by the reliance of SNS.ย During the period of revising the blog posts, major assignment, and in-class writings, I have a deeper perspective of the media. For the revision of blog post 3, there is a significant and obvious change in attitude toward analyzing the graffiti work in the Sipyard. I choose two graffiti works. In the beginning of the semester, I just wrote what impressed me and what I liked about it. I wrote that the targeted audience for the white box graffiti is the anyone who can see the graffiti work; it was too general and vague. When I looked back the white box graffiti, I could narrow the targeted audience down to the young artist who tries to paint the graffiti in the Sipyard, which is more specific. After having my own graffiti work, I can understand how the author or creator of the graffiti choose the audience and what message they want to give. Since using the media like graffiti and audio manipulation is not the method that directly says what we want to deliver, I gave a meaning or a message to each small details. For instance, in the local graffiti project, I expressed people using the SNS by drawing the finger-like spoon pointing the Instagram on the dish. The original targeted audience of the fancy old man graffiti was people who like pop culture. During the revision, I focused on small details and had more developed insights. Instead of analyzing the fancy shoes and accessories as a trendy fashion, I revised it as a symbol of 21th-century technology. The Just weird skin color of the old man has a meaning of new generation which does not represent any race in the world. The targeted audience is young and old people to have the young mind with a slow pace of living. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

Being one of the students in this class, I extended the depth of viewing the subject. In the class time right after we wrote about graffiti we looked at the Sipyard, we discussed how we analyzed the graffiti. One peer who sat next to me talked about blog post 3. She said that she also saw the same graffiti and had quite a different opinion. She tried to focus on the details of the graffiti while I focused on the big drawing of the graffiti as a whole. Talking and Discussing in the class help me increase thinking and creativity. As a writer, I could write more specifically so that the reader could clearly understand my point of the writing. More knowledge and experience provide deeper insight and richer expression. Meticulous reading of materials and active participation in project works will improve understanding of WAM and my output of the project.
